Standard Chartered Singapore hires new ED from BNP Paribas
Standard Chartered in Singapore has appointed Christian Hutchings as an executive director, focused on macro sales.
His move earlier this month follows a six-year stint at BNP Paribas in Singapore, where he latterly worked in macro sales and was previously head of institutional LM rates sales for APAC, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Hutchings was at ANZ between 2007 and 2015, most recently as a director, global real money rate sales.
Macro sales people and traders have been in high demand in recent months, following a bumper year for revenues amid market volatility.
The macro trading businesses at JPMorgan and Bank of America, for example, both enjoyed a strong 2022, according to their Q4 results. BofA CEO Brian Moynihan said earlier this month that his bank “continuously” invested in its macro sales and trading business in 2022, and revenues rose there as a result.
As we’ve previously reported, demand for macro talent is strong in Asia among both banks and buy-side firms. Hedge fund Bluecrest Capital Management is expanding its macro effort, and looking to hire FX and rates traders in Hong Kong and Singapore, for example.
