DBS’s appetite for recruiting people into senior technology roles shows no signs of abating during the final few months of 2021. The bank has recently made two hires to head up technology teams.
Cloud architect Kapil Shukla has joined as head of engineering and architecture for DBS’s finance platform, according to LinkedIn.
Shukla started his career back in 2004, but he hasn’t been employed at a bank before. DBS has previously stated a desire to hire technologists from outside the finance sector in a bid to overcome local talent shortages and make its tech team more innovative. Other banks in Singapore are doing the same when they need sought-after skills in fields like cloud engineering.
However, Shukla did service banks (including DBS) as clients in his previous role as principal architect, financial services industry, at enterprise software company Red Hat.
Meanwhile, Fang Wu joined DBS earlier this month as head of test practices. The tech veteran, who graduated from China’s elite Tsinghua University in 1999, previously spent nearly four years as a domain test manager at Standard Chartered.
DBS is likely to welcome several more technology leaders before the year is out. It is advertising for four “head of” roles in tech, including a head of equities technology, investment and insurance, according to its careers site.
Across all seniority levels, DBS has 266 Singapore-based tech vacancies – that’s more than OCBC (139) and UOB (114) combined. DBS’s Hack2Hire event, which returns on 23 October after a year-long hiatus, aims to recruit 150 people across 14 developer and engineering functions.
DBS technologists have a range of new projects to work on. For example, DBS announced earlier this month that it expects to double the number of members on its new cryptocurrency trading platform to 1,000 by end-December, and grow this by 20% to 30% annually for the next three years as digital tokens become more mainstream.
