Job Summary:

The Senior Contract Wording Specialist will provide technical guidance to Underwriters with respect to a wide range of North American and International reinsurance agreements. Responsibilities include applying the Company's underwriting guidelines to assumed property and casualty reinsurance agreements and assisting the Company's retrocessional department in drafting bespoke clauses and wordings. Provide Underwriters with commercial and actionable advice to help achieve optimal contract wordings. Provide technical guidance in developing and implementing technology-forward contract review and management tools. This role will report to the Global Head of Contracts.

About the role:

  • Serve as thought leader with respect to insurance and reinsurance industry trends and regulatory changes impacting reinsurance coverage and wording issues.
  • As a member of the CUO's office, assist with establishing and implementing wording-related policies to be consistently applied throughout a global organization.
  • Work with Contract Wording team, Underwriters, Claims personnel, and Legal colleagues to draft agreements, resolve wording issues, refine wording templates and establish best practices.
  • Analyze contracts and endorsements for suitability and check for deviations from company underwriting guidelines and agreed-upon terms.
  • Act as a key contributor in developing tech-based wording review tools and processes to improve consistency, relevancy and productivity.
  • Evaluate broker produced wordings and market reference clauses for suitability and craft solutions to address underwriting concerns.
  • Prepare reinsurance contracts, endorsements, NDAs and other agreements based on corporate standards.

Qualifications:

Technical Skills:
  • Expertise with relevant software, including CoPilot, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Project management
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to spot errors and inconsistencies.

Behavioral Competencies:
  • Excellent written communication skills, including demonstrated competence in technical reading, writing and communicating in English.
  • Strategic and analytical thinker, including basic math proficiency and proven problem solving.
  • Adaptable to proprietary systems/applications as demonstrated by previous experience.
  • Demonstrated collaborative and learning mindset

Work Experience:
  • 10 or more years of experience in (re)insurance contract drafting, underwriting, legal, and/or claims.

Education:
  • A Legal degree, Bachelor's degree, Paralegal degree or ARe preferred.
