Full Stack Developer, Python / React / Typescript

Macquarie Group London, United Kingdom
Across Commodities and Global Markets, data is fundamental to how we trade, price, manage risk and make decisions. It flows through market feeds, cloud platforms and specialist systems, each serving different needs across the business. But having sophisticated data platforms is only part of the equation. When decisions are time-sensitive and carry significant financial and operational consequences, understanding what data is available, what it means, where it came from, how reliable and current it is, and who is entitled to use it becomes just as important. As the scale and complexity of our data estate grow, we want to make it easier for people and applications to find, understand and use the right data with confidence, without the complexity of the underlying systems standing in the way.

We already use established solutions to manage and govern our data, but we believe there is an opportunity to go further. We're building our own Data Control Plane from the ground up, designed around the needs of our business and the platforms that support it. Rather than replacing the systems that store and process data, it will provide a more consistent way to discover, understand and securely access information across our data estate. Starting with catalogue, metadata, lineage and discovery, we're laying the foundations for more connected, transparent and effective governance, making it easier to put data to work without compromising control. As AI-enabled applications and agents become increasingly important, that foundation will be critical to enabling them to discover and interact with data in a secure, reliable and governed way.

Building this platform brings together sophisticated application development and the challenges of engineering at scale. From intuitive interfaces that make complex data easy to explore, to high-performance APIs and services that connect securely across distributed systems, every layer needs to be designed for reliability, scalability and long-term evolution.

We are a global financial services group operating in 30 markets with 57 years of unbroken profitability. At Macquarie, you're empowered to shape a career that is fulfilling and creates value. You will bring your insights and expertise to the task at hand and feel supported as you make your own kind of impact for a better future.

What role will you play?

As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you'll help shape and build the Data Control Plane from the ground up. You'll work across the product, from the experiences people interact with to the services and cloud infrastructure behind them. Using React and TypeScript, Python and AWS, you'll build capabilities that make complex data easier to discover, understand and use.

On the frontend, you'll create intuitive experiences for exploring and interacting with data. You'll develop features including catalogue browsing, search, data-rich grids, visualisations and workflow-driven functionality, working with reusable components, design systems and complex application state. As the product grows, you'll also tackle the performance and usability challenges that come with increasingly rich applications and larger volumes of data.

Beyond the frontend, you'll design, build and operate the APIs and backend services that power these experiences. Working with Python and frameworks such as FastAPI, you'll develop secure, high-performing services using SQL and relational data models. You'll work across areas such as asynchronous processing, validation, pagination, caching, versioning and error handling to create APIs that can evolve reliably as the platform grows.

Security and access will be built into the platform from the outset. You'll integrate with identity and access-management services, developing authentication and role-based authorisation that allow people and applications to access data appropriately and securely.
You'll have the opportunity to work across the engineering lifecycle, taking new capabilities from design and development through to deployment and production. Using CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and observability practices, you'll help ensure the platform can be released reliably, operated effectively and continually improved as it grows on AWS.

Because this is a greenfield build, you'll have the opportunity to influence how the product develops as well as what we build. You'll contribute to architectural decisions, technical direction and the engineering standards that will support the platform as it grows, applying strong software engineering principles across testing, security, scalability, resilience and maintainability. You'll also develop AI-enabled capabilities that create new ways for people to discover and understand data. This could include natural-language catalogue search, metadata enrichment and intelligent assistant-style features. You'll integrate managed large language model services and apply appropriate evaluation, safeguards and responsible AI practices to make these capabilities useful, reliable and secure.

What you offer

  • Full stack software engineering experience, with a track record of building and launching new products or platforms from the ground up.
  • Strong Python backend development experience, including designing and building production APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI.
  • Strong React and TypeScript experience.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying applications in the cloud, ideally AWS, using modern approaches such as containers or serverless technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and Git-based development, with a strong understanding of testing, observability, security and maintainability.
  • Ability to contribute to architecture and technical design decisions, including explaining engineering choices and trade-offs.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and integrating large language model or other AI services into applications. Exposure to AWS AI technologies such as Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore, as well as familiarity with agent frameworks such as LangGraph, are a plus.
We love hearing from anyone inspired to build a better future with us, if you're excited about the role or working at Macquarie we encourage you to apply.
