Global Markets Internal Audit - APAC Investment Banking

Morgan McKinley Tokyo, Japan
Build your career in Global Markets Internal Audit with a top-tier European corporate and investment bank in Tokyo. This regional APAC role offers the opportunity to lead audit assignments and risk assessments across North Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia, gaining broad exposure to global markets, capital markets products, trading activities, and regulatory environments.

As a Global Markets Audit Specialist at Associate to VP level, you will assess end-to-end risks and controls across trading, sales, operations, and control functions. You will work directly with senior business leaders across APAC, identify areas for improvement, and recommend practical remediation measures that strengthen the bank's risk and control environment.

Importantly, prior internal audit experience is not required. Candidates with strong Global Markets experience from front office, middle office, operations, or first- and second-line risk and control functions are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute regional Global Markets internal audit assignments covering North Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and other APAC markets.
  • Assess end-to-end risk and control frameworks across trading, sales, middle office, operations, and control functions, identifying potential weaknesses and recommending practical remediation actions.
  • Deliver comprehensive audit and risk assessments, presenting key findings and recommendations directly to senior business heads and regional management.
  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting global capital markets and assess their potential impact on trading activities, operational processes, and control frameworks.
  • Track remediation plans following audit reviews and work with business stakeholders to ensure agreed actions are implemented effectively.
  • Participate in cross-border APAC audit assignments and support local regulatory reviews when required.
  • Collaborate with regional and global stakeholders to promote consistent risk management, governance, and internal control standards across the organisation.
Required Skills and Qualifications Experience:
  • 3-5+ years of securities or Global Markets experience gained within front office, middle office, operations, or first- or second-line risk and control functions.
  • Strong product knowledge across Global Markets, securities, capital markets, or trading activities, together with an understanding of the operational and risk frameworks supporting these businesses.
  • Experience assessing business processes, operational risks, controls, or regulatory requirements within an investment banking or capital markets environment.
  • Current or previous professional working experience in Japan is required.
  • Prior internal audit experience is not required, making this an attractive opportunity for Global Markets professionals seeking to transition into a regional audit career.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent university qualification.
Soft Skills:
  • Self-driven and independent working style, with the ability to manage regional audit assignments autonomously.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify risks, challenge existing processes, and develop practical recommendations.
  • Confident communication and presentation skills for discussing audit findings with senior business leaders and regional management.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across different functions, cultures, and APAC markets.
  • Flexibility and willingness to participate in cross-border assignments and work within an international banking environment.
Language Requirements:
  • English: Fluent proficiency is essential for regional APAC assignments, senior stakeholder communication, and collaboration within the global organisation.
  • Japanese: Business or fluent-level proficiency is preferred but not mandatory. Current or previous working experience in Japan is required.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience within Global Markets, investment banking, securities, capital markets, trading, market risk, operational risk, or compliance.
  • Knowledge of front-to-back processes and control frameworks supporting Global Markets businesses.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations affecting capital markets activities across Japan or the wider APAC region.
  • Previous exposure to internal audit, risk assessment, regulatory reviews, or control testing is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders across multiple countries or regional business functions.
  • Interest in developing a long-term career in internal audit, risk management, and Global Markets governance.
