About our client

We are working with the young partner team of a European venture firm with a strong track record in software and AI investments. The firm has moved to the second generation of leadership (with the founders still involved on strategic matters) and the partners are keen to identify a couple of senior investors as advisory board and investment committee members to lend the benefit of their experience on deal making, fundraising and investor relations, team development and other matters as arise from time to time. What the job involves

• The primary value the new board members will offer is having worked in other firms, cultures and indeed markets, offering an objective perspective on how to grow the business successfully
• At present there is no set formula. The partners are keen to find trusted advisers who can help them develop personally and optimise their stewardship of the business
• This will probably include input on strategy, deal sourcing and execution as well as on investment decisions, portfolio management, fundraising and team development
• While each relationship will emerge organically and based on circumstances, it is envisaged there might be brief weekly contact by phone or video, allowing the partners to share their priorities and seek advice
• Occasional in-person meetings are expected, likely around portfolio or investor events but the majority of the dialogue will be remote and structured to suit availability
• The client envisages a meaningful cash retainer together with the opportunity for co-investments

Who we are looking for

• Seasoned venture investors who have done lots of early stage deals and seen these through to successful exits - commercial success as investors
• Experience raising funds and dealing with investors - business builders
• Building and managing a team long term - leaders
• Sympathetic personal style, willing to coach and share experiences - natural teachers
• Ideally one appointment to come with roots in an Anglo-Saxon (US / UK) culture, the other in the DACH market to offer diverse and complementary perspectives
