A Day in the Life of a QA Engineer at Flow Traders
Some start the day with a great morning workout (with a trainer, fellow colleagues or just by yourself), followed by a refreshing shower. After this, you’re definitely awake and breakfast is on the menu - most people have this at their desk.
By 9:05 we have the first stand-up with our team, followed at 9:20, by the stand-up with the whole QA team so that we are aligned with what is happening with the rest of the projects, or in case someone needs some help, or things need to be synchronized. After this, we often go and talk to colleagues asking for their help, if needed, or clarification with regards to some tasks. Getting back to our desks, we do the sprint allocated tasks, which may be automating new/existing functionality using either Python or Java, manually testing some fixes that are related to integration and can't easily be automated, configuring environments, assessing tasks, and going through documentation; this is also a good time to review other colleagues' code. Somewhere in between all this we sneak in lunch, we like to get 30 minutes away from our desks, a disconnect of sorts where talks about work are the exception not the rule. If our schedules aren’t too busy, no external deadlines, or you need to escape for a few minutes from the daily routine, it is nice that we have a ping pong table, the espresso machines and our own Flow bar. The latter one is a good choice in the evening after a hard days' work, if you want to hang with your colleagues and have some relaxation time before heading back home.
