Systems Security Engineer

Key Responsibilities
  • Configures, maintains, documents, and implements policies for firewalls and router ACL's in on-premises and cloud deployments.
  • Configures and provides technical support for firewalls for internal clients and external customers.
  • Ensures consistent and reliable firewall performance to protect system integrity.
  • Implements access lists and VPN's as required for development projects and customer requests.
  • Participates on assigned development projects to define, test, and implement firewall policies and router ACL's supporting business implementations.
  • Stays current on security best practices, emerging technologies and security threats to identify methods for maintaining system security and reliability.
  • Assists with security product evaluations and participates in the preparation of recommendations for acquisition or application.
  • Conducts security audits as directed by management unassisted or in conjunction with senior personnel.
  • Works with management to define business needs and provide knowledge of networking enhancements and innovations
  • Understand and revise network configurations
  • Develops project plans for the implementation and security requirements of small to medium LANs and/or WANs
  • Evaluates new hardware and software to determine cost-effective solutions and/or appropriate applications
  • Troubleshoot/resolve problems, inefficiencies and network performance issues to correct deficiencies
  • Monitor and maintain LAN and WAN communication to achieve optimum system performance
  • Build, configure, and troubleshoot IPSec VPNs, GETVPN, or DMVPN


    Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science, related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
    • 4+ years of related experience, with at least 2 years TCP/IP networking experience.
    • Experience with Linux is required
    • Strong knowledge of networking and networking protocols.
    • Strong knowledge of security technologies including encryption, stateful firewalls, and access control lists.
    • Strong knowledge of leading firewalls, network scanning, and authentication technologies.
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Works under minimal supervision. Normally receives no instruction on routine work, general instructions on new assignments.
    • Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
    • Network Infrastructure (routers, switches, TCP/IP)
    • Firewalls (firewall policy, analysis)
    • Information Security (compliance with technical security standards, governance)
    • Available to work normal business hours and after hours as needed
    • Available to provide on-call support
    • Fluent in spoken and written English
    • Principles and practices of customer service
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
    • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
    Not Required but experience helpful
    • Familiar with or understanding of IPS technologies
    • Familiar with or understanding of web proxies (url filtering)
    • Familiar with or understanding of Firewall Policy Manager (FPM)
    • Familiar with or understanding of Software Defined Networking (ACI, NSX, etc)
    • Familiar with or understanding of packet capture tools (wireshark, tcpdump, etc)
    • Familiar with or understanding of Application Delivery Controller (ADM) technology (load balancer, f5, Netscaler, etc)
    • Familiar with or understanding of API's with python experience a plus
